Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater
The Commodores and The Pointer Sisters are joining forces to bring you the very best in funk, soul, R&B, and pop. The legendary groups, who have more than 100 million albums sold, 20 No. 1 hits, and 10 Top 10 albums between them, have announced a limited short run trek that includes a stop in Wantagh, New York. The co-headliners will be hitting the road and taking An Evening of Icons to the Jones Beach Theater on Thursday 25th July 2024. The Commodores are currently made up of vocalist James Dean "J.D." Nicholas, vocalist and drummer Walter Orange, as well as multi-instrumentalist William "WAK" King (trumpet, guitar, keyboards, vocals). Meanwhile, The Pointer Sisters are an all female sibling trio that consists of Ruth Pointer, Issa Pointer, and Sadako Pointer. Two legendary music ensembles, The Commodores and The Pointer Sisters, are bringing fans their co-headlining tour: An Evening of Icons. With a combined rich legacy, these iconic artists are set to take concert goers on a wild ride through their career spanning hits. With more than 100 million albums sold, 20 No. 1 hits, and 10 Top 10 albums, there’s no doubt that The Commodores and The Pointer Sisters will deliver the very best in funk, soul, R&B, and pop. The trek will see support from very special guests The Spinners and El DeBarge on select dates. The inaugural part of the tour kicks off on 11th July 2024 at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, IL making stops in Wantagh, Raleigh, Tuscaloosa, Tampa, and more before wrapping things up in Primm, NV on the 30th November 2024.
The Commodores, known around the world for chart-toppers, such as “Brick House,” “Easy,” “Nightshift” and “Three Times a Lady,” said: “Motown was the place where our dreams took flight. Sharing the stage with another legend like The Pointer Sisters as Motown celebrates their 65th anniversary is truly special. We’re proud to continue to celebrate the music that brought us all together!” Meanwhile, The Pointer Sisters is a dynamic group recognized for smash hits like “I’m So Excited,” “Jump (For My Love),” and “Neutron Dance.” The all-women sibling trio said: “65 years of Motown and timeless hits! What a milestone. It’s a joy to be touring with a true Motown treasure, The Commodores. Here’s to the music that continues to move generations!”
